Working of electric switches:

An electric switch is composed of three main parts: the contacts, the actuator, and the terminals. The contacts are the parts of the switch that actually make or break the electrical connection. The actuator is the part of the switch that moves the contacts, either by flipping a toggle switch, pushing a button, or turning a knob. The terminals are the points where the switch is connected to the rest of the circuit.

When the switch is in the “on” position, the contacts are closed, and electricity can flow through the circuit. When the switch is in the “off” position, the contacts are open, and electricity cannot flow. When the actuator is moved, it causes the contacts to either open or close.

The simplest type of switch is a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) switch. This type of switch has two terminals and a single set of contacts. When the switch is in the “on” position, the contacts are closed, and electricity flows through the circuit. When the switch is in the “off” position, the contacts are open, and electricity cannot flow.

More complex switches, such as double-pole, double-throw (DPDT) switches, can have multiple sets of contacts and terminals, allowing them to control more complex circuits. In some cases, switches may also have additional features, such as illuminated indicators or locking mechanisms, to prevent accidental activation.
